The Certification process provides schools an annual opportunity to assess their AVID program and consider new growth opportunities. Participation in the certification process ensures that schools develop effective and authentic AVID programs for their students. Certification allows AVID Center to identify Certified and Affiliate AVID sites. Certified AVID sites have implemented all of the AVID Implementation Essentials. Affiliate AVID sites are working toward full implementation.
The Certification process involves two main components: the Initial Self-Study (ISS) and the Certification Self-Study (CSS).
The Initial Self-Study (ISS) is designed to establish baseline implementation levels of the 11 AVID Essentials. The information from the ISS is used to identify target areas for improvement that will be documented on the CSS. As such, the ISS is considered a prescriptive tool that promotes continuous program improvement resulting in the highest levels of program implementation fidelity.
The Certification Self-Study is designed to document the overall implementation levels of the 11 AVID Essentials. The information from the CSS is used to determine certification status. Sites implementing each of the 11 AVID Essentials at the Certification Standard Level are granted certification status. Sites implementing each of the 11 AVID Essentials at Level 2 or Routine Use are eligible to become an AVID Demonstration Site. Those sites at the highest levels of implementation fidelity are granted Certification with Distinction.
